Why I Am At MATC

Why am I here? Why a technical college instead of a university? My reason was that it was the original plan I intended to go with and because of my permanent move here to Milwaukee. I felt a technical college was the route for me to take because in my mind I wanted to "turn pro sooner," like MATC says. Milwaukee Area Tech College wasn't the specific school of choice, but I saw that it had the program I was interested in, and that was the Network Specialist program. So I went ahead and took the chance to begin this opportunity as a stormer student to learn about information technology. I'm already feeling one step closer to becoming a professional just by enrolling.

So here I am at MATC progressing my way to the IT field. I am new to this field, but feel optimistic about what's in store down the road. Before this, I knew nothing about computer networking. I mean I still don't know anything yet because of the courses I am enrolled in, but I have a better understanding of what networking is. Within the next semester or two I will hopefully start to engage in working with designing, securing and troubleshooting networks etc, as the job title describes. That's what I wanted to learn and that is what I came to do.

As far as work experiences go I have none in this field, but minor understanding of setting up routers and making the internet work. Well, the plug and play part at least. I know there are some work required because I have seen a professional set it up once. All I know is that there are a lot of wiring connections involved.

The reason I chose the IT Network Specialist program was because I felt it was a growing job in demand due to the growth of today's technology. I want to land a nice job one day. Like most people would say, a "dream job". A job that I would brag about for the next thirty, fourty years from now about how great it is for me to be part of it. Technology is forever expanding, and it will continue to and that's what I expect for myself. I want to be able to travel on the job even if its a short or long distance. I want to be able to say I changed this in the computer today or I made this type of network happen. Most importantly, I want to work around people who are passionate in what they do and changing the world by their ideas. Therefore, I chose the IT field so that I myself may one day create something extraordinary for others to experience.

So there you have it. These are the reasons for the path I am taking. The reason why I enrolled at MATC. My interests in everything there is to offer about my career and what I see myself doing down the road. Although, I may not have the knowledge, work experience, or full understanding of information technology in networks yet, it is a work in progress. I will continue to keep up with the material as required and long for the day of graduation.
